Font Ideas For My Masthead

Content Page Draft

On the contents page I will have the masthead in the biggest text going across the top left third of the page and under that the title "contents" in a smaller text. There will be an image underneath the title on the left third of a model leaning against a wall with direct mode of address. The subheadings on the page will all be in the same font and size but the main text will be different fonts. Next to the text "in Style" there will be three little images, which will be applying what’s inside the magazine, but I don't know what I'm going to put in them yet which is why I just wrote "image".  

Double Page Spread Draft

On the left page of the DPS there will be a image of the model taking up the whole page and a caption in the top left third, in the image the models body will be facing away from the camera but she will be looking towards the camera with direct mode of address, she will have a hat on covering some of her face but there will be shadowing so you will only be able to see half of her face. On the right page of the DPS the masthead will be the biggest text at the top third, an introduction under it and then normal text under that with gutters and a little box with another image in.

Front Cover Draft

For my front cover of the magazine the masthead "style" will start from the left third and go across the page, next to it there will be the date in smaller text. The model on the front cover will be wearing a fur coat leaning over so her shoulder will be pointing to the camera with her hands holding onto the edge of the coat, she will have direct mode of address in the image and she will be on the left third of the page. The cover lines will then go around the model on the right third of the page with the bar code at the bottom right third of the page.

Target Audience Mood Board

My target audience will be young and still be going out enjoying life although most of them will probably have jobs or go to college they still have time for a social life and to do things that they enjoy. They will be old enough to go out with their friends and drink alcohol so they could be going to the pubs or clubs at the weekend and go out for meals with their friends or family a lot, some of them may eat unhealthy and do what they like but some of them may be health freaks and like going to the gym while they listen to their music and so on. My target audience will enjoy listening to music but aren’t serious listeners, they like going shopping and care about their fashion, they are up to date with all the new technology and enjoy listening to music on their phone and going on the common apps such as Instagram and Twitter.

Mood Board On Colours And Fonts

I have chosen a lot of different fonts as its conventional for a women’s magazine to have a lot and for different cover lines and mastheads should all have an certain font, I know that having serif font for the masthead is unconventional but I think it makes it stand out more and I like the capitals and bold writing as it will stand out more to the audience, the main text is easy and clear to read which is why i choose it as it will be better for the audience to read. I have used the colour red because when i looked at music magazines most of their main colours were red. I have used light pastel colours because in most female magazines and fashion magazines they use light colours. 

Mood Board Advertisers

I have chosen the everyday high street shops like Topshop and River Island because they are the most common shops that females like to shop in and I have also picked shops like Ted Baker and Michael Kors because they are common brands that female age 16-25 like to shop at I have put a few different shops in as my target audience will be interested in fashion and will shop at all different shops.  I have put all the most common food that my target audience would normally eat and drink as they are at the age where they can drink alcohol and go out. I have put everyday gadgets that anyone would use not just my target audience for example the IPhone.  I have put everyday makeup in and branded makeup as well as every female wears and knows what it is. I have put everyday Apps that people go on a everyday and I have also put headphone in and speakers as my target audience will be interested in music.

Initial Ideas For My Magazine

My magazine front cover will be designed to appeal to mostly female readers from all different ages within every edition, the name of my magazine is called Unique. My edition of the magazine would feature the UPS of fashion and music, i have chosen to focus on this theme as both genres are popular amongst the general viewing audience. The target audience for the magazine would be readers who listen to a wide range of music and are interested in fashion around it, there will be a girl on my magazine so i will be focusing on females around the age of 16-25.
In order for my magazine to stand out among other magazines such as Rolling Stones and Q i will need to make something different, for example i have given my magazine a brand identity such as a logo that is iconographic of music and fashion. Connoted through the word "Unique" it represents how everyone has a different fashion sense with different music taste as well. The skyline "Fashion though the ages" anchors the readers understanding and expectations of the magazine genre, although it doesn't say anything about music in the skyline but it will be obvious in the cover lines and other elements on the front cover. My magazine will keep to obvious conventions in magazines with the masthead starting from the left and cover lines around the main cover image but will have its own conventional aspects such as the main colours i will use will be red,black and white i will use these because i think they stand out and contrast well together. i will have a famous singer as the front cover image and the cover lines will be things like "fashions new beat" to show the audience that inside the magazine the content will be about fashion and music.

Questionnaire Overview

Question 1. Are you male or female? In this question i asked 19 females and only 12 males this could lead to the rest of the questions being biased as there will be more girly answers instead of being an even gender balance making it fair. Question 2. What would interest you most in the magazine? In this question the most liked topic was music sports and fashion so if i was to make the magazine i would make sure to put these in to get more people interested in it. The least liked topic was resources and problem page, if i was to make the problem page i wouldn't bother putting it in the magazine as no one will be interested about them. Question 3. How much would you pay for the magazine? In this question there was a choice of £1,£2 and £3 for how much people would pay for the magazine 14 people said £1, 16 people said £2 and nobody said they would pay £3. If i was to make the magazine i would make it £1.50 because although most people said they would pay £2 not everyone would, so £1.50 is meeting in the middle getting more of an audience to buy the magazine. Question 3. How often would you want the magazine to be produced? In this question people had the choice of weekly, fortnightly and monthly. 12 people said weekly, 13 people said fortnightly and 6 people said monthly. if i was to make the magazine i would do it being produced every fortnight. Question 4. what 3 colours would appeal to you more? In this question people had the choice of red,blue,yellow,green,purple or other. the most liked colour was blue with 24 then red with 16, 15 people liked purple, 9 liked green and 8 liked yellow. 3 people wrote pink in other and 1 person put black. If i was to make the magazine i would make sure to put the most liked colours to get a wider audience. Question 5. would freebies,discounts and special offers encourage you to buy the magazine? In this question 28 people said yes and 2 people said no, if i was to make the magazine i would put in special offers on to encourage people to get the magazine. Question 6. Would an online version encourage you to read the magazine? In this question 14 people said yes and 16 people said no. Question 7. What types of pictures would you like to see? In this question people has a choice of people/students, nature, student work and technology. 20 people said people/students, 3 people said nature, 4 people said student work and 4 people said technology. If i was to make the magazine i would put people/students on the magazine as it would appeal to most people. Question 8. would you be interested on contributing to the magazine? In this question 9 people said yes and 21 people said no. Question 9. would you like email updates about the magazine? In this question 7 people said yes and 23 people said no.
